Testing & Placement

One of the first things you have to do after you've applied to SCC will be to provide standardized test scores. If you've already taken the ACT, simply provide your official score (we can tell you how).

If you haven't taken the ACT, you'll need to take the COMPASS test. It is similar to the ACT but is more suited for community college students.

You don't have to go into the COMPASS test cold. Click on the link below to learn more about the COMPASS test. You can see sample questions and even take practice tests.

To help you review the math skills you will be evaluated on when you take the COMPASS placement test, please download this PDF for math skills that was created here for students by SCC's Title III team. If you decide you would like some help with math after studying these review pages, you can contact Donna Logan, T3 Learning Lab Specialist at 319-208-5294 or dlogan@scciowa.edu.
