West Burlington, IA--The Southeastern Community College Blackhawks had two players sign National Letters of Intent to continue their college baseball careers.
Southeastern sophomores Luke Staub and Engel Diaz have signed national letters of intent to continue their baseball careers at four year institutions. Staub, a RHP and a native of Edwards, IL., will attend Division I George Washington University who competes in the Atlantic 10 conference. Engel Diaz, a RHP will be taking his talents to the University of Northwestern Ohio an NAIA program which is only in its second year of existence and has already received pre-season top 25 votes. UNOH is located in Lima, Ohio
“I’m very excited for Engel and Luke, they both seemed real comfortable with their respective programs when they returned from their visits.” “ It’s a good fit and a great opportunity for these two guys to continue their baseball careers." Said Head Baseball Coach Justin Schulte
Southeastern Community College has now had over 150 players sign to continue their careers at four-year colleges.
June 8, 2011 West Burlington, IA. -- Southeastern Community College shortstop, Yhoxian "Chippy" Medina was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 38th round of the 2011 Major Leage Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The selection culminates an outstanding 2-year career which saw Medina rack up 2010 ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year, 2011 ICCAC Player of the Year, and 2011 NJCAA 1st-Team All-America Honors. The Blackhawks posted a record of 86-33 in Medina's two years as the starting shortstop.
June 6, 2011 West Burlingon, IA. -- Sophomores Yhoxian Medina (Caracas, Venezuela) and Matt Duncan (Brownsburg, Indiana) were voted 1st and 2nd team NJCAA All-Americans, respectively. Medina, the starting shortstop for the Blackhawks for two years posted gaudy offensive numbers on his way to being named ICCAC Player of the Year. The talented infielder hit .404 with 15 doubles, 5 homeruns, 2 triples, and 50 RBI and was near perfect on the bases, stealing 47 bags on 48 attempts. He also posted 34 bases on balls, and 9 hit by pitches while only striking out 13 times. This follows his freshmen season where he was named the ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year.
The 'Hawks safety valve in the bullpen, closer Matt Duncan was equally impressive on the mound for SCC. The right-hander from Brownsburg, Indiana posted 13 saves in 23 appearances and struck out 48 batters while walking only 12 in 32 2/3 innings pitched. Duncan was 2nd in the nation in saves in both his freshmen and sophomore years, and surrended only 3 earned runs during the 2011 campain, for a 0.83 ERA. The talented reliever was also voted ICCAC Pitcher of the year, and will further his career at Morehead State University.
