Foundation scholarship deadline is April 1

FULL RIDES =  FREE TUITION & BOOKS!

Southeastern Community College offers two special kinds of Board of Trustees scholarships.

The Board of Trustees HONORS Scholarship is available to the VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN of the graduating class in any state accredited public or parochial high school in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. The scholarship shall be renewable for a second year of enrollment. The scholarship will pay for all tuition and required textbooks. Carl Sandburg trustee scholars' tuition will be paid at no more than SCC's non-resident rate.

Southeastern Community College will make available annually five SCC Board of Trustees' DIVERSITY Scholarships which will pay for all tuition and required textbooks. These awards shall be renewable for a second year of enrollment provided the recipient maintains appropriate eligibility criteria.

Scholarship Application Deadlines

Deadlines for scholarship applications for SCCAA and SCC Foundation scholarships are April 1 for the following Fall semester and October 1 for the following Spring semester.

Leave yourself plenty of time to complete the online application and your FAFSA, which means you'll to need to have filed your current tax form. You will also need to provide two reference letters from folks like your teachers, employers, or co-workers, so give them at least two weeks to write the letters.

Note: FAFSA information and reference letters can be mailed or hand delivered to the SCC Foundation Ooffice, 1500 W. Agency Road, Suite 116, West Burlington, IA 52655.

Need a helping hand?

Are you a current student in a bit of a financial pinch? The SCC Foundation has a limited number of one-time emergency revolving loans available for students who have completed at least the first semester mid-terms (i.e., have achieved a recorded GPA) and who risk dropping out of college because of an unexpected, short-term financial crisis.

The Yohe Emergency Retention Fund (for West Burlington Campus students) and the Chuck Peters Emergency Retention Fund (for Keokuk Campus, Fort Madison and Mount Pleasant Center students) are designed to assist students who have extreme financial need by providing a revolving loan (i.e., repayment without interest is expected at a later date) of up to $200 once during an academic year.

Documentation of need and attempts to secure other funding are required. No direct-to-student grants are provided. Assistance can be applied only to SCC tuition or books, or to another third party only if an invoice is presented (e.g., from a landlord, car repair business, babysitter, etc.).

Students who have never requested assistance will receive preference.

A written referral is required. At the West Burlington Campus, Fort Madison Center, Mount Pleasant Center, contact SCC SuCCess Center Director, Dr. Teresa Garcia at tgarcia@scciowa.edu. For students attending Keokuk Campus, contact Keokuk Campus Dean, Ben DeSpain at bdespain@scciowa.edu or Financial Aid Officer, Ean Freels at efreels@scciowa.edu.
